Alice Ann Mccullough

Alice Ann (Schaben) McCullough, age 90, of Story City, IA, and formerly of Carroll, IA, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Bethany Life in Story City.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll with Fr. Patrick Behm as Celebrant. Lector will be Bill Huls.  Gift bearers will be Lindsay Fox and Ella Fox.  Casket bearers will be Jamie McCullough, Luke Feld, Jesse McCullough, Spencer Feld, Maddox McCullough, and Mason McCullough. Burial will be in King Cemetery northwest of Vail at 1:30 P.M.

A visitation will be held from 5-6:45 P.M. on Monday, July 15th at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with a Wake Service at 6:45 P.M. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday morning where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the Mass.

Alice was born on January 22, 1934 in Defiance, IA, and was the daughter of Clarence and Catherine (Block) Schaben. She grew up on her family's farm near Defiance and graduated from St. Paul's Catholic School in 1951. Following high school, Alice worked as a housekeeper for mothers of new babies. She was married to Leo K. McCullough on February 7, 1955 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Defiance. The couple lived on the McCullough family farm near Vail and Alice was active in the farming operation helping to raise cattle. She was a 4-H leader while her children were growing up. Alice and Leo moved to Carroll in 1989. Alice was a member of Holy Spirit Parish where she was active with the church guild and the Legion of Mary. Alice enjoyed embroidering, crafts, fishing, baking her famous pies, and spending time with her family. You could often find her tending to her large flower and vegetable gardens and loved canning the produce she reaped. Alice was always there to lend a helping hand whether it being her friends or family.

Alice is survived by her daughter Debra Huls (Dr. William) of Ames; two sons: Larry McCullough (Bonnie) of Missouri Valley, IA, and Randy McCullough (Theresa Blackburn) of Salix, IA; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister Mary Muell (Rich) of Missouri Valley, IA; a brother Allen Schaben (Jo Ann) of Harlan, IA; two sisters-in-law: Lou Ann Schaben of Defiance and Judy Schaben of Carroll; her dear friend Judy Spaen; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Leo K. McCullough; her son Darrell McCullough; her parents Clarence and Catherine Schaben; her in-laws: Mr. and Mrs. Leo A. McCullough; four brothers: Donald, Warren, Dennis, and Adolph; and her sister Marlene Christensen.
