Alberta Wittrock beloved mother, age 90, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 19, 2010 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Rev. Timothy Schott as celebrant. Music will be by Marcy Anderson (Pianist and vocalist), Steve Anderson (vocalist), Justin Badding (vocalist and violinist), Tyler Badding (violinist), and Alberta’s granddaughter Emily Patzelt (Flutist). Visitation will be held at St. Lawrence Church from 9:00 A.M. On Friday until the time of Mass. Lectors for the mass will be Julia Patzelt, Regina Stetkevich, and Carley Collison . Gift bearers will be Natalie Collison, Abbey Wittrock, Avery Wittrock, Brendan Collison, and Alex Collison. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Dr. Christopher Collison, Charles Collison, Nicholas Collison, Michael Collison, Kevin Wittrock, Dominic Provopulos, Robert Provopulos, Edward Patzelt, Phillip Wittrock, and Andrew Wittrock. The St. Anthony Auxiliary will form an honor guard at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to the new St. Lawrence Center building fund, or Kuemper Catholic High School Foundation.
Alberta was born in Carroll on March 23, 1919 her parents were Inez and Ernest Marcucci of Lucca, Italy. She attended St. Angela's Academy, where she graduated in the Spring of 1937. On October 12, 1937, she and Mike Wittrock were married at St. Peter's and Paul's Catholic Church in Carroll.
Alberta's parents were the owners of the Carroll Candy Kitchen. For several years, as a child, she lived with her parents in Lucca, Italy.
At the academy, Alberta played violin in the school's orchestra. She was a 50th Anniversary member of St. Anthony Auxiliary. She was a member of the Newman Study Club from the time of its inception in Carroll. She passed her Italian heritage down to her children and grandchildren in a broad range of cultural, culinary and civic endeavors. Alberta was a Scout leader for all five of her children. She and her husband Mike taught ballroom dancing and enjoyed dancing well into their 70’s.
Alberta is survived by five children, Diane Collison of Chicago, Illinois; Michael E. Wittrock and his wife Ingrid of San Clemente, California, Linda Rogers of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Lucia Patzelt and her husband Dr. Lawrence of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and David Wittrock and his wife Barbara of Hillsborough, California; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother Albert and his wife Adele of Lake Havasu, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mike, and a brother Robert.
