Alberta "Bobbie" Martin - Shelton

K. Alberta “Bobbi” Martin Shelton, age 101, of Lincoln, NE, and formerly of the Carroll – Lake View area passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at her home in Lincoln. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey of First United Methodist Church in Carroll officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to Lake View Public Library and may be left with the funeral home or mailed to Lake View Public Library 202 Main St, Lake View, IA 51450 . Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on May 15, 1915 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of William Albert and Grace Ruth (Mason) Crook. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1933. Bobbi, as she was known to most, then attended the Iowa State University. She was married to Dr. John E. Martin on October 29, 1944 in Des Moines. Dr. John and Bobbi lived in several locations while he served in the United States Navy and made their home in Carroll following his military service where he practiced Optometry. Dr. Martin passed away in 1990. Bobbi was later married to Max L. Shelton on November 12, 1994 in Weslaco, TX. The Shelton’s lived in Lake View and spent the winters in Weslaco. After Max’s death, Bobbi moved to Lincoln in 2010 to be near her daughter and family. She enjoyed reading, music, dancing, knitting, sewing, socializing, and nature. She loved people and animals. Bobbi was devoted to her family and cherished every moment spent with them. She was an active volunteer for several organizations and was doing volunteer work up to the time of her death. She was an active member of Eastern Star while living in Carroll. Bobbi is survived by two daughters: Ruth Martin (Peg) of Phoenix, AZ, and Lois Targoff (Gary) of Lincoln, Ne; two grandchildren: Erika Crowley of Phoenix, AZ, and Ryan Targoff (Amanda) of Philadelphia, PA; and two great grandchildren: Kevin and Katie Crowley. Bobbi is also survived by Max’s children: Mary DeHaan (Mick) of Harlan, IA, Mike Shelton (Mary Jo) of Blue Grass, IA, and Mark Shelton (Nancy) of Dallas, TX. Bobbi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dr. John Martin and her husband Max Shelton, and a brother Gene Crook.
