Alberta Birdie Berndt, age 96, of Carroll passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll. Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from noon on Friday until the time of service. Organist for the funeral will be Jan Hoff and soloist will be Marv Toft singing “Amazing Grace” and "How Great Thou Art" The congregation will sing “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Casket Bearers will be Arlo Buck, Dennis Corcoran, Richard Janning, Judy Haubrich, Larry Hunter and Joe O’Leary. Honorary casket bearers will be the entire staff of the Carroll Health Center including Raspberry. Interment will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Born on November 6, 1917 at Denison, Iowa, she was the daughter of Gus and Carolina ( Ells ) Carlson. She grew up in Denison and graduated from Denison High School. She was married to Raymond Berndt on April 16, 1939 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Pastor Carl Schmidt. Birdie was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. Birdie loved and lived her God given life. Birdie is survived by a daughter Donna Rae Jones and her husband Randall of Urbandale, Iowa; and one grandson Jeff Jones of Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond in January 0f 2012, two sisters: Dinah Luvaas and Julia O’Leary and a brother Ells Carlson.
