Sergeant Adrian Edward Hike was killed in action in Afghanistan on November 12, 2007.
He was born July 21, 1981, in Carroll, Iowa, and attended schools in Odebolt, Lake View, Wall Lake, and Sac City where he graduated in 2000.
After enlisting in the Army in 2002 he completed Cavalry Scout training at Ft. Knox. His duty station was Schweinfurt, Germany.
In February 2005 he was deployed to Iraq where he served for a year and received a Purple Heart due to injuries. In 2006 he attended Airborne and Paratrooper training for 8 weeks at Ft Benning. In June 2007 he was deployed to Afghanistan where he was killed in action.
Hike lived a theme of selfless service that started long before his military career. He gave up his own security to keep his family together, and never shared experiences with his mom he thought would give her nightmares. His military career shed him of childish habits and crafted him into a true hero. That is how he will be remembered.
