Kent W. Douglas, age 46, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont, Nebraska.
Born on August 28, 1962 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Howard and Mary (Stoolman) Douglas. He grew up in Glidden where he attended high school. Following high school he worked for the Carroll County Conservation Board for 18 years while living at Swan Lake. He then worked for Elite Pork Partnership and West Central Cooperative before becoming a Certified Locomotive Engineer for Union Pacific Rail Road. He was married to Annette Cornelius on June 6, 1981 at the Presbyterian Church in Glidden. Kent was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glidden, the Water Rescue Volunteers, and the Friends of Bill W. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, scuba diving, traveling, and cooking.
Surviving are his wife Annette of Glidden; a son Jeremy Douglas and his wife Sarah of Glidden; a son Michael Douglas of Glidden; his mother Mary Walkup and her husband Ed of Glidden; his mother-in-law Theresa Cornelius of Carroll; a Brother Gary Douglas and his wife Cheri of Payson, Arizona; a brother Rick Douglas and his wife Nancy of Monticello, Iowa; a sister Jerilyn Carter of St. Louis, Missouri; a brother Curtis Douglas and his wife Vicki of Summerville, Oregon; a step-sister Joyce Smith of Newton, Iowa; a step-brother David Walkup and his wife Janet of Osceola, Iowa; a step-brother Paul Walkup and his wife Jeni of Glidden; a sister-in-law Diane Reetz and her husband Dennis of Carroll; a brother-in-law Richard Cornelius and his wife Nancy of Sac City, Iowa; a brother-in-law James Cornelius Sr. and his wife Pat of Perry, Iowa; a sister-in-law Joyce Behrens and her husband Roger of Glidden; a brother-in-law Russ Cornelius and his wife Barb of Carroll; a sister-in-law Marg Cory and her husband Craig of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents, and a nephew Paul Cory.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, June 21, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden with Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzsimmons officiating. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Marlys Conner. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Rodney Dreesman, Kent Gray, Doug Bock, Al Bock, Dan Austin, and Randy Raridon. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. The family suggests casual attire.
