Don Burkett

Don Carl Burkett, age 82, of rural Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at his home near Glidden.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Fr. Andrew Hoffman of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden. Music for the service will be by Mary Ross and hymns will be “Here I Am Lord”, “In The Garden”, and “Amazing Grace”. Casket bearers will be Andy Pudenz, Ricky Pudenz, Charlie Clark, Justin Soyer, Keith Walker, and Vernon Bundt. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden with military honors conducted by the Merle Hay Post of the American Legion.

Born on December 9, 1929, at Jefferson, Iowa, he was the son of Gerald and Isabelle (Welch) Fagan. He grew up in the Glidden area and graduated from Glidden High School. Following high school he enlisted and served in the United States Navy. He was married to Dolores Cahoon in 1952 in Virginia. Following his military career the couple moved back to Glidden where Don worked several jobs throughout the years often working two or three jobs at a time. He loved being in the country, hunting, riding around his property on his Gator, watching sports, crossword puzzles, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Don is survived by his daughter Brenda Lehman and her husband Roger of West Chester, Pennsylvania; a brother Marion Burkett of Sheldon, Illinois; a son-in-law Ricky Pudenz and his wife Helen of Glidden; eight grandchildren: Marcy Clark and her husband Charlie of Lawton, Iowa, Mitchell Davis and his wife Kari of Des Moines, Andy Pudenz and his wife Abby of West Des Moines, Rachael and Brandi Lehman of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Justin Soyer and his wife Crystal of Glidden, and Jon and Julia Soyer of Glidden; and six great grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1996, a daughter Debra Pudenz in 1999, and a daughter Susan Davis in 2005.
